Review – Shazam (2019), Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer – DC Extended Universe

Shazam! is a superhero film based on the DC Comics character, which was released in Spring of 2019. It’s the seventh film in the DC Extended Universe. The film stars Zachary Levi as Shazam and Asher Angel as his younger self, Billy, and a cast that includes Mark Strong as the arch villain, Jack Dylan Grazer as Billy’s foster brother.

The film centres around Billy Batson, a 14-year-old boy played by Asher Angel, who has spent most of his living in foster homes and searching for his birth mother, having been abandoned by her when he was very young. He becomes caught up in a search by an ancient wizard seeking to pass on his super powers to someone pure of heart. Billy passes the test and becomes Shazam, a superhero with a whole host of superpowers.

Shazam! is directed by David F. Sandberg, produced by Peter Safran and has a screenplay by Henry Gayden based on the same characters from DC Comics.
